If you went to bed early, here's the news: the Hurricanes lost. No. 1 Miami fell 31-24 to Notre Dame in South Bend on Saturday night. CJ Carr threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns, and the Irish never trailed.
Notre Dame led 17-3 at halftime and 24-3 early in the third quarter. Miami got within a touchdown twice. Then, with 3:36 left, tight end Elija Lofton appeared to make a fourth-down catch in the end zone that would have made it 31-30. Notre Dame's Luke Talich knocked the ball away, and officials ruled it incomplete.
“Really disappointed that they negated Elija Lofton’s touchdown with two hands on the ball and two feet in bounds.”
Miami coach Mario Cristobal
Quarterback Darian Mensah, playing without injured receiver Malachi Toney, went 24 of 43 for 276 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.
- Records: Miami 8-1, Notre Dame 8-1
- Lofton: seven catches, 113 yards, one touchdown
- Unbeaten FBS teams left: Utah and UCLA, both 9-0
